Concern for people involves promoting working relationships and paying attention to issues of importance to group members. As shown in Exhibit 12.9, the Leadership Grid ® demonstrates that any combination of these two leader concerns is possible, and five styles of leadership are highlighted here. Can a leadership grid help you improve your leadership style?

In an ideal world, leaders would be able to put 110% effort into both categories, but in reality, they must balance priorities in individual situations and varied contexts. Moreover, while the grid identifies different kinds of leadership style, it does little to help guide people to improve their leadership style.

How will the leadership grid evolve?

As the field of leadership continues to evolve, the Leadership Grid may adapt and expand in the following directions: Future iterations of the grid may incorporate elements of emotional intelligence, recognizing the significance of emotions in leadership.
